LENORE Jan 19 2002

Lenore is a comic book written by Roman Dirge, and is about a dead girl and her friends. If you put Edgar Alan Poe, Neil Gaiman, Tim Burton and Roald Dahl together in a room, served them lots of coffee, and let them stay up way too late, you would probably find a Lenore comic on your table when they left (giggling about their new in-joke, of course).

Lenore is morbid, absurd, twisted, and utterly inspired. I was a little sceptical the first time I read it, but now I can sit around watching TV when a comic drops into memory; Of course, everybody thinks I might have misplaced some of my marbles when I suddenly look like I thought of dead kitties and found it amusing enough to fall to the floor in cramps (which of course is exactly what has happened). Dirge's timing is perfect, the humour is off-key, and Lenore herself is a character you've never seen the likes of. Highly recommended.
